General Floor Care Tips (All Flooring Types)
- Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose dirt and grit, these particles scratch surfaces if left unattended.
- Mop with a damp (not wet) cloth or mop when required, excess water is especially harmful for wooden and engineered floors.
- Avoid dragging heavy furniture, high-heel shoes or sharp-soled shoes across the floor surface. These can cause dents or surface damage.
- Protect your floor from direct sunlight if possible, using blinds or curtains, prolonged UV exposure can fade colours and finishes.
- Use entrance mats to minimise tracked-in sand, dirt or outdoor moisture. These are major causes of wear and damage.
Product-Specific Care Guides:
- Laminate: Laminate is durable and cost-effective but still requires correct care. Use a dust mop or vacuum with no beater bar; never use steam cleaners or soak the floor. For bevel-edged planks, very minimal moisture is tolerated.
- Engineered Wood: Wood adds warmth and elegance, but moisture, humidity and direct sunlight must be managed. Clean with a damp micro-fibre cloth and a wood-floor cleaner and maintain indoor humidity in UAE and Oman climates.
- Vinyl (LVT/SPC): Vinyl is resilient and water-resistant but still needs proper maintenance. Sweep or vacuum, mop gently with a manufacturer-approved cleaner, avoid abrasive tools and immediately wipe up spills.
- Carpet & Carpet Tiles: Vacuum regularly, treat stains quickly using approved carpet cleaners, rotate furniture to prevent wear paths, and use mats in high traffic zones to preserve pile.
- Outdoor Decking & Artificial Grass: For decking: sweep and rinse regularly, check for surface wear or joint movement, and avoid standing water. For artificial grass: remove debris, rinse if needed, and brush fibres periodically to maintain upright appearance.
Tools & Products You’ll Need
- Soft-bristled broom or vacuum cleaner (with hard-floor mode or soft brush)
- Micro-fibre mop or cloth
- pH-neutral or manufacturer-approved cleaner (for wood, vinyl, laminate)
- Protective pads for furniture legs
- Doormats at entrances to trap grit and sand (which cause abrasion)
- Mat or tray for artificial grass or outdoor decking areas to catch debris and water runoff
Seasonal & Environment-Specific Advice
In the UAE and Oman climate, heat, humidity and sand impact flooring differently.
- During hot months, avoid extreme indoor temperatures and use blinds or UV film to protect flooring.
- Check underfloor humidity or air conditioning performance in villas or homes with engineered wood floors.
- After sandstorms or heavy outdoor traffic, rinse outdoor decking and artificial grass to remove grit and dust.
- For homes with children or pets, consider more frequent vacuuming and protective furniture pads to minimise wear.

Common Problems & Quick Fixes:
- Scuff marks: For hard floors, use a micro-fibre cloth and suitable cleaner; avoid steel wool or harsh abrasives.
- Furniture indentations: Use felt pads under legs; lift and reset heavy items occasionally to avoid permanent compression.
- Water damage: On wood or laminate, wipe up spills immediately; ensure no pooling occurs at seams or doorways.
- Colour fade/discolouration: Move rugs occasionally, rotate furniture, and limit exposure to strong sunlight, especially for lighter tones.
- Outdoor surface wear: Regularly check and maintain edges, joints and drainage on decking to prevent expansion problems or mould accumulation.
