Flooring trends to inspire you for 2022

Flooring trends to inspire you for 2022
As the writer and poet Munia Khan once said, “New year is the glittering light to brighten the dream-lined pathway of future.” It is a good reminder that no matter how challenging a time may be, the new year will always bring with it exciting opportunities and the chance to start something new. Heading into 2022, there is no better time to breath fresh energy into your environment and create a space that fills you with joy. To inspire you, we’re taking a look at some of the top flooring trends that will shape interior design in the coming year.
Antique and distressed looks
If you’re in the market for something that adds drama and character to your space, distressed and antique looks are the trend to explore. These floors have features like wavy contours, dented surfaces, large knots and eye-catching cracks. Lived-in-and-loved design elements give the surface a sense of personality and authentic history. For a gorgeous and organic timber option, check out classic Cambridge Antique from Royal Parquet. The majestic 240mm wide timber planks conjure the elegant atmosphere of stately homes from days gone by:

Old Dark Rustical from Gerbur Verdi offers an affordable laminate alternative, with a registered embossed surface that brings the rustic wood effect to life with a distinct textured finish.

Whitewashed looks
On the other end of the tonal spectrum, whitewashed looks are also making a big comeback as part of the eco-chic interior trend. These floors create a peaceful, beachside-style ambiance – well-known for being a staple of the classic Californian look. The lighter wood hues can add a bright, cheerful tone to either rustic spaces or paired back modern interiors. White Willow from Gerbur Nature provides a beautiful but easy to care for LVT option, with subtle and creamy tones and textures.

PCA White from Swiss Hardwood’s Pinnacle Vogue range offers a trendsetting Scandinavian look. Its impeccable bevelled edges, natural wood grains and oil finish produce a tactile surface that is easy on the eyes and a gift to bare feet.

Stained Concrete looks
This flooring trend is well known in the context of industrial aesthetics with dark, moody tones and unfinished elements like exposed bricks. But another, increasingly popular trend is using it to complement polished, minimalist architecture. The low-shine finish can be used to counterbalance the otherwise very clean feel of these interior styles with a rough-and-ready foundation. Liquid, an SPC floor from Gerbur’s Concrete range, is a lovely example. The raw, speckled finish contrasts slick metallic décor and appliances to create a dynamic interplay of tones and textures.

Dark Stained Concrete from Gerbur Art Minerals offers a slightly different take on this approach. Here, its sultry dark tones contrast suave, contemporary furniture and fittings – an innovative blend of industrial and ultramodern trends.

Bold and textured carpet looks
Two carpeting trends are taking centre stage in 2022: bold designs and tactile textures. The first applies especially to commercial spaces like offices, since multiple colors and distinct patterns can be introduced without much altering the durability and ease of maintenance of the material. This ‘maximalist’ approach is on clear display with Graphic 02 from British Carpet Mills. While the overall design of the space is clean, the pronounced carpet design enhances the vivid furniture and quirky décor to enliven the energy of the room.

The second trend comes into focus in homes, especially bedrooms, living rooms and other areas where comfort is key. As with many fashions, flooring trends often occur in cycles. Right now, we’re seeing the classic saxony look – and feel – become very popular again. Saxony carpets have higher piles than berber or cut-and-loop carpets and take on a different tone as you run your hand through the plush fibres. Amaryllis 35 from Balta Group is a stunning example, both in its aesthetic and sensuously soft textured surface.

Designer parquetry looks
While chevron and herringbone designs have been popular for some time (and this trend continues), more elaborate parquet floors are on the up too. These vary from restrained and classic patterns like Versailles to intricate floral and geometric mosaics. Dove Gilded Lines showcases the subtler approach, with its interplay of horizontal, vertical and diagonal arrow-shapes.

Meanwhile, the spectacular starbursts and interwoven chains of Tawny Art Mosaic – crafted by combining walnut, birch and oak timber – exemplify the complex possibilities of parquetry. This is certainly a trend to watch!
